Jalapeño Popper Breadsticks

Jalapeño Popper Breadsticks: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

Breadsticks filled with cream cheese and jalapeños, then topped with some cheddar cheese. A delicious and subtly spicy breadstick. If you want them more spicy leave the seeds in one jalapeño, but not the other or if you really want them spicy, leave the seeds in both jalapeños.

Jalapeño Popper Breadsticks

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound pizza dough ball
  • 2- 8 ounce packages reduced fat cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 medium jalapeños, seeded and finely diced
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425º F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or silpat.
  2. In a medium bowl combine the cream cheese, jalapeños and black pepper.]
  3. Sprinkle your work space with flour and divide the dough ball in half.
  4. Working with one dough ball at a time, roll it into a 16 inch wide and 8 inch high rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. If the dough is not rolling out well and keeps on shrinking, let it rest for 5-10 minutes and then roll again.
  5. Cut the dough into 4 inch wide strips.
  6. Place the cream cheese mixture into a pipping bag, with a small tip just big enough for the jalapeños to fit through, or large resealable bag, with a small hole cut in one corner.
  7. Slowly squeeze the cream cheese mixture in a narrow line down the center of each dough strip.
  8. Fold the dough over the filling and press tightly to seal. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Repeat this process the remaining dough ball.
  10. Brush the breadsticks with olive oil and sprinkle with the cheddar cheese.
  11. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the breadsticks are puffed up and cheese has melted and golden brown.
  12. Serve warm.

Notes:
When you cut the breadsticks, you can either cut the on the short side or long side, depending on how long you want the breadstick to be.
