Banana Split Ice Cream

Banana Split Ice Cream: Savory Sweet and Satsifying

My husband and I are big fans of a banana split. So much so that I have often though about making them at home for us to enjoy. But then I realize I would need to make three batches of ice cream, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and have them all ready to go in the freezer. With each ice cream taking at least 5 hours to be ready plus letting the ice cream maker insert refreeze, it would take me 4 days before I could make the banana split. For me that is too long to wait for a delicious banana split. So I decided to create a banana split ice cream that incorporates all of the things we love about a banana split in one ice cream.

Banana Split Ice Cream

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup half and half
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup diced strawberries
  • 3/4 cup diced bananas, perfectly ripe no brown spots
  • 3/4 cup pineapple tidbits, drained
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips

Optional Toppings

  • whipped cream
  • maraschino cherry

Directions:

  1. Place freezer safe container, for storing the ice cream, in the freezer.
  2. In a large bowl whisk together the half and half and sugar until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add in the heavy cream and vanilla extract, stirring to mix.
  4. Pour into an ice cream maker and churn according to manufacturer's directions.
  5. During the last five minutes of churn time add in the strawberries, bananas, pineapple and chocolate chips.
  6. Remove storage container from freezer and transfer ice cream into it. Put lid on and freeze.
Enjoy!!!
